‘We can and we must save our planet earth' was the message reinforced in young minds by the Science Club of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura, which organised Earth Care, an inter-school competition. The topic was ‘Natural Resources'.
Events
Students of Std VII to IX from 16 schools participated in the programme which comprised three events — extempore, think-tank (an environment quiz) and Sci Toon (science-fiction-based cartoons on the environment), spread over many rounds. This is the second year in succession that the contest is being held, to create environmental awareness among students.

The winner of the extempore round was Arshad Mohammed of Rajagiri Public School, while the winners of think-tank were Rishikesh K. and Aswin Menon of Bhavans Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara. Priya Jerson and Arun Johnson of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, were the winners of the Sci Toon round. The Earth Care ever-rolling trophy was bagged by Rajagiri Public School.
The honorary secretary of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura, Shanta Balakrishnan, inaugurated the programme while K.B. Sujatha, the Principal of Kochi Refinery School, was the chief guest.
She lauded the efforts of science teachers in conducting the innovative programme to encourage students to conserve earth's fast-depleting natural resources. The others who spoke included principal Usha Mohan and vice-principal Maya Menon.
