Students of various local schools have brought laurels to the city by faring exceedingly well in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz – 2010 held recently.
Students of Delhi Public School, V.P. Siddhartha Public School and Bhashyam BIIT received distinctions in the event that drew participation of nearly 1.2 lakh students from 16 different countries. The Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Australia, gave plaques and certificates to the top 800 outstanding students. The Institute has been organising the quiz for the last 28 years.

The schools of various countries that participated in the quiz this year include Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Malaysia, Singapore, Western Samoa, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Brunei, England, Vanuatu and Canada, besides India.
In India, students of Stds. VII to XII, from 250 schools in Ahmedabad, Akola, Amravathi, Bhopal, Bangalore, Belgaum, Cochin, Chidambaram, Delhi, Dehradun, Darjeeling, Goa, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jabalpur, Kottayam, Kanpur, Kakinada, Kurnool, Karaikudi, Lucknow, Navi Mumbai, Nagpur, Nasik, Pune, Pondicherry, Ranchi, Rajkot, Vadodara and Visakhapatnam besides Vijayawada participated in the quiz.
The objective of the quiz is to generate interest of the student community in chemistry. It also helps science teachers to understand the weaknesses and strengths of their students in specific areas of chemistry.
