Indian Concrete Institute's formation day is celebrated as “Concrete Day” all over India during the month of September.
Headquartered in Chennai, the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) is a registered professional body of over 4,500 individuals and organisations in 27 centres across the country. The Indian Concrete Institute was formed as a professional organisation on September 7, 1982.
The ICI is dedicated to the betterment of concrete, concrete construction in the field and in the field of research. It has been organising seminars, workshops, lectures and structured training programmes for the betterment of the knowledge of people in the construction industry.

The ICI's Karnataka Bangalore Centre has over 500 members under its fold, more than half of them in Bangalore city. ICI-KBC holds the flagship events of the Indian concrete Institute.
ICI-IWC (Innovative World of Concrete) started in 1993 and ‘ICI Asian Conference on Ecstasies of CONcrete (ACECON)' took off in 2000 and has become a regular international event.
ICI-KBC had organised ‘DEMINAR,' an unique event where seminar papers are presented as live demonstration of technology.

Presentation
As every centre of the ICI and ICI-KBC celebrates ‘Concrete Day' every year in a grand way, ‘Concrete Day lecture' and presentation of ICI KBC-UltraTech Endowment awards are the key features this year too in Bangalore.
The lecture includes a presentation on unique technology or current mega projects from the people involved. The Endowment awards, presented along with M/s UltraTech Cement Ltd., were instituted in the year 2000 and have come a long way since then.
Two awards
There are two awards given on Concrete Day:
ICI (KBC)-UltraTech Endowment Award for Outstanding Concrete Engineer of Karnataka and ICI (KBC)-Birla Super Endowment Award for Outstanding Concrete Structure of Karnataka.
The first award is for personalities residing in Karnataka who have made significant contributions to the cause of concrete construction and design / research and development and dissemination of knowledge.
This award has been conferred on several eminent personalities from the past 11 years.
They include Prakash Desai, Retd. Professor, IISc., Bangalore; N. Krishna Raju, Retd. Professor, MSRIT, Bangalore (2001); R.D. John, Retd. Chief Engineer, ISRO; C.S. Viswanatha, Chief Consulting Engineer, TRFI, Bangalore; R. Sundaram, leading consulting engineer, Bangalore; H.K. Nanjunda Swamy, expert in the construction of innovative RCC water tanks; R. Jagadish, academician/ consultant; B.S. Sudhir Chandra, Director (project & planning), BMRC; S.K. Ananda Kumar of Master Planery, Puttur, Dakshina Kannada, for his innovations in use of concrete for common man; D. Seetharamiah for his promotion of admixtures in concrete; and N. Nagendra Kumar, who was the trend setter in innovative applications in structures made of concrete.

Puram; Mailasandra water treatment plant of BWSSB; 275 m high RCC chimney at Bellary; Cafeteria building, ABB; Beary's Lake Side Habitat, Bangalore; UB City Bangalore; Pritech Park Phase-I (SEZ), Marthalli Outer Ring Road; and Infosys Global Education Centre-II, Infosys Campus, Mysore.
Concrete Day 2011 will be held at the NIMHANS convention centre on September 7.
The winners of the two awards will be announced during the Concrete Day celebrations.
