Play’s the thing

Rekha Jain’s Umang staged an interesting play after the completion of their annual summer theatre workshop

Theatre for kids: Hindi writer Shripasad of Varanasi being felicitated.

The auditorium was filled with enthusiastic and energetic parents who had come to watch their children's performance. Umang , a children's theatre organisation founded by Rekha Jain organised Rekha Jain Bal Rang Samman, on the completion of its annual summer theatre workshop followed by the play Kaun Bada Kaun Chhota at Kamani auditorium.

On the occasion, an award was also given to Hindi writer Shriprasad of Varanasi by Lok Sabha MP Sandeep Dikshit, who was the Chief Guest at the function. Shriprasad has to his credit more than 60 books comprising children’s stories, novels, poems and plays. He has made significant contribution to children's literature and drama. At the function, the author also recited his poem based on elephant.

“ It is a very tough job to write for children. It is difficult to understand children’s mindset, which Rekha

ji did very easily. Her efforts have paid back. She has not left us; she is still amongst us and is giving us inspiration to work for the children,” said Shriprasad.

Rekha Jain’s play

Kaun Bada Kaun Chota was directed by Harish Verma. The play revolved around a bunch of kids who go to a storyteller to listen to a story. He narrates the tale of Tinku, who loses all his four sense organs for they have developed their separate kingdoms. They are attacked by the army of germs. Finally when they realise that they are nothing without the each other, they reunite.

Neelam Mansingh Chaudhary distributed the prizes and certificates to the participants and the winners of chitra kala competition. “I am mesmerised by the energy and talent of the kids. It is always delightful to see the work of children. It was really spectacular,” remarked the acclaimed theatre director.
