The musical instinct of an artist gets reflected in the sensitive exposition of the musical agenda. Kruthi Bhat (based in Houston) through her skilful sancharas for the chosen ragas demonstrated good training and understanding during her concert for Amrithavarshini Fine Arts, last week

Warming up with ‘Angayarkkanni’ in honour of Devi in Bilahari, the following ‘Atu kaaraadani balga’ (Manoranjani) brought out the bard’s supplication to Lord Rama as to why he was subjected to such misfortune by Him struck a chord with the rasikas. Kruthi’s alapana of Bilahari for the kriti, ‘Kadaikkann vaithennai’ with a feisty neraval and spate of swaras and mapping the contours of Saraswathi for the kriti ‘Saraswathi namosthuthe’ . She concluded with ‘Govardhana giridhari’ (Varamu), Mani noopura dhari (Nilambari), an abhang and a tillana in Misraranjani.

Ananthakrishnan (violin) showed his prowess during the solo versions of ragas and swara sallies. The laya wing in the hands of Narayanan (mridangam) and Krishna (ghatam) added enough pep.
