Srirangam Sunitha Raghavan presented a vocal recital at the 78th monthly music festival of the Tiruchi Tamil Isai Sangam at Tamil Sangam hall, recently. An engineer by profession, she is a disciple of Srirangam Kannamma Rangarajan.

Sunitha commenced her recital with Tiruvalluvar's ‘Kadavul Vazhthu' in Bowli, adi tala. Poet Subramania Bharati's genius came to the fore in the songs ‘Vidhiyae Vazhi' (Nattai), ‘Yaam Arindha Mozhigalilae' (Vasantha), ‘Paarukkullae Nalla Naadu' (Jaunpuri) and ‘Vaazhiya Senthamizh' (Madhyamavathi).

She also presented a selection of songs from Suddhananda Bharati -- ‘Arul Purivaai' in Hamsadhwani and ‘Kanneduthu Agilum Kanerae' in Simhendra Madhyamam – which were well received by the listeners. Bharathidasan's ‘Thunbam Naergayil' in Desh was another gem which Sunitha sang with sincerity. ‘Aravanai Palliyil' composed by Srirangam composer Sakthi Saravanan in Shanmukhapriya, was the main piece. A brisk tani followed this detailed rendition.

The other compositions that Sunitha chose that day were Gopalakrishna Bharati's ‘Sabapathikku' in Abhogi, Andal's Tiruppavai ‘Nayakanae Nindru' in Mohanam, Annamalai Reddiar's Kavadi Sindhu ‘Pulli Kalaba Maiyile' and Rajaji ‘Kurai Ondrumillai.'

Sunitha, who concluded with a brisk Tiruppugazh padal, ‘Oru Pozhuthum,' in Chakravakam, was ably supported by Ramji on the violin, Tiruchi B. Swaminathan on the mridangam, Sekar on the ganjira and A. Sridharan on the ghatam.
