Bearing the stamp of Lalgudi school

Sowkhyam coupled with deft and in-depth handling of ragas marked the concert of Shreya Devnath.

Sowkhyam marked the solo violin recital of Shreya Devnath (a disciple of Lalgudi Jayaraman) featured by Rajalakshmi Fine Arts, Coimbatore.

Flagging off her session with a Lalgudi Varnam in Garudadhwani bringing out the refreshing aspects of the raga, the following Papanasam Sivan's composition, ‘Gowri Manohara' in Gowrimanohari with a rich tapestry of kalpanaswaras was aesthetic. Her deft and in-depth bowing in the alapanas of Vasantha, for the kriti, ‘Seethamma Mayamma' with a feisty niraval and swaras, and in Mohanam for the kriti ‘Mohanarama' revealed the lyrical beauty of the sahityas superbly.

Elaborate rendition

The highlight of the kutcheri was the RTP in Shanmukhapriya (khanda jati triputa), the pallavi being ‘Senthil Meedhu.' The raga was given an elaborate treatment touching the nuances of harmony. ‘Brocheva' (Khamas) and ‘Nadaloludai' (Kalyanavasantam) were rendered in all their grandeur.

A lilting Lalgudi tillana in Behag closed her musical agenda. Her whole exercise bore the stamp of the Lalgudi School. Excellent percussion support from Narayanan (mridangam) and Swaminathan (ganjira) lent dignity to the concert.
