Tamil songs on veena

‘Saliamangalam’ G. Ramadoss, Kanchi Kamakoti asthana vidwan, presented a veena concert at the 55th monthly music festival of the Tiruchi Tamil Isai Sangam at the Tamil Sangam premises in Tiruchi city recently. This was the maiden full-fledged music concert using instruments held under the auspices of the Tiruchi Tamil Isai Sangam. He was ably supported by ‘Thanjai’ Sankarasubramanian on the mridangam, ‘Pudukottai’ Solaimalai on the ghatam and ‘Vishnupuram’ K. Raghu on moharsingh.

Prof. N. Vijayasundari of the Department of Tamil, Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Tiruchi, was the chief guest. She spoke at length on the origin of Tamil music and how the Tamil Isai Moovar promoted the same. It is the duty of every Tamil to follow in the footsteps of the Tamil Isai Moovar in protecting and promoting Tamil music, she added.

L.N. Lakshmanan, industrialist and president of the Tiruchi Tamil Isai Sangam, in his presidential address, explained the various activities of the Sangam to promote Tamil music in this part of the state. N. Mohan, vice-president of the Sangam, and others spoke.
