On his first concert in Vijayawada, flute artiste V. Vamseedhar of Mysore won the hearts of connoisseurs of music with his superb tonal quality and sound manodharma. The concert for Swarajhari Sabha od Vijayawada took place at Sri Sringeri Sarada Peetha Paripalita Sivaramakrishna Kshetram. Vamseedhar has musically rich lineage — he is the grandson of late vidwan V.Desikachar and his uncle is Padmabhushan awardee late Mysore Doraiswamy, a great vainik. Presently Vamseedhar is under the guidance of veteran vidwan D. Balakrishna. An employee of SBI, Mysore, Vamseedhar has given flute concerts in many countries and received several awards and accolades.
Vamseedhar started the concert with Kanada ata tala varnam followed by Ramanadham Bhajeham of Dikshitar in the rare raga Kasiramapriya and Rama Nannu Brovara in Harikambhoji in quick succession. The flautist’s breath control was commendable. While playing the ragas, the long notes were perfectly aligned with sruti. The sensitive tonal quality of his instrument was bliss to the listeners. After playing Bhogindra Sayinam of Swathi Thirunal in Kuntalavarali Vamseedhar played the majestic composition O Rangasayi in Kambhoji. The raga elaboration, detailed neraval and fine swarakalpana brought out the flautist’s complete command over the manodharma aspects. P.Nandakumar, a staff member of Government Music College, Guntur provided fine support on the violin and his version of Kambhoji was particularly pleasing. B.V.S. Prasad, an `A-grade staff artiste of Vijayawada Akashvani and M.Haribabu, a staff member of Guntur Music College combined well on mridangam and ghatam respectively. Vamseedhar closed his concert with a Tamil keertana and a fine thillana in Kanada.
