Both the Carnatic vocalists were talking about the venerated music critic K. S. Mahadevan, whose written word left a deep impact on not just classical performers of his time, but also scores and scores of his readers. Indeed, KSM, as he was affectionately called, was a name to reckon with in the classical and journalistic worlds.

To commemorate his birth centenary in 2013, his family put together some of his writings and brought out this valuable tome. Besides various articles culled out of
