PAPANASAM SIVAN - CARNATIC MUSICIAN,LYRICIST,FILM SINGER,COMPOSER AND ACTOR OF YESTERYEARS.

The disciples of five dance teachers will present Kapaliswarar Pancharatnam, composed by Papanasam Sivan, at Sri Kapaliswarar temple, Mylapore, on April 26, 6 p.m. The composer, famous for his ‘Kana Kann Koti Vendum,’ on the Adikara Nandi procession, dedicated to his favourite deity this suit of songs on the lines of Sri Tyagaraja’s Pancharatnam. The five songs – ‘Nayakan’, ‘Karpaga Nadanin’, ‘Kapalisanae Karunakaranae’, ‘Kaavadukaividuthal’ and ‘Sri Kapalisanae Manamirangi’ - composed in the same ragas as Tyagaraja’s Pancharatnam, trace the story behind the Kapali-Karpagam concept.

They capture the beauty of Mylapore or Mayilai that got its name from Karpagamabal, who assumed the form of a peacock, the coming of the Lord from Kailasa to earth, Panguni Utiram and the celestial wedding.

H.N. Nandini, Radhika Vairavelavan, Srekala Bharat, Sikkil Vasanta Kumar and Narendra Kumar will perform nattuvangam as their disciples give visual form to the songs. This is part of the Panguni festival on at the temple.
