Tribute to masters at TANKER Foundation event in US

An Atlanta-based not-for-profit organization’s traditional Indian dance recital was one of its kind tributes to Gurus.

Aptly titled, ‘Guru Samarpana’ was presented by ‘Third Eye Dancers’ as a fundraiser for Tamilnadu Kidney Research Foundation (TANKER Foundation) on August 28 at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Gerogia.

The Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Kuchipudi show began when 17-year-old Sutikshna Veeravali, set the ball rolling with graceful Nrittanjali – a Bharatanatyam presentation.

This was followed by Kathak exponent Kumud Salva and her Academy students’ performing a choreography on

Hanuman Chalisa . The group also performed mohe chhedo naa, the divine love of Lord Krishna and Radha.

Krishna Kumar and Sivakami then performed a riveting Bharatanatyam dance, impressively choreographed by Subathra Sudarshan, to a song in praise of the art form, Aaadal Kalaiye from Tamil movie Sri Ragavendra .

Sasikala Penumarthi, a disciple of Kuchipudi exponent Padma Bhushan Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam gave a spellbinding performance to the popular Bengali song Bodhu Kon Alo from Tagore’s play Chitrangda .

Bharatanatyam renderings of Yen Palli Kondeer Ayya by Arunachala Kavirayar, Meera bai’s bhajan Hari Tum Haro and kuchipudi recital of poet Thyagaraja’s Jagadananda Karaka were other notable performaces.

Third Eye Dancer’s upcoming event, ’Enchanted Snowwhite’(a Bharatha Natya Academy Production) will be a fundraiser to aid children education for ‘Bhutanese Refugees‘ living in Atlanta and is scheduled to be held at Gwinnett Center on October 29,2011.

Last the organization raised funds for ‘CNN Hero’ Narayanan Krishnan.
