Dancer Shobana is all set to showcase her latest production. Titled ‘Samadhina’ or Trance, the music-dance extravaganza will be mounted on April 22, 7 p.m., at The Music Academy Madras, TTK Road.
‘Samadhina’ is a quest to present Bharatanatyam in an eclectic and spiritual form. Each piece is strewn together on the traditional structure but with music ranging from Sufi, film and khayal to compositions of Bach and Vivaldi. It will recreate the mystic trance brought about by the Sufi poets as well as saint poets Patanjali and Jayadeva, who transcend man-made religious and social barriers with their imagery.
Shobana collaborates with pianist Anil Srinivasan, Vijay Ghate (tabla) and Sanjoy Das (guitar), besides Kyun Woo Chung from Korea, who is currently teaching at A.R. Rahman’s K.M. Conservatory.
