Music of an extraordinary kind will drench the audience of Chennai on Saturday next (June 29). Presented by The Hindu , ‘Divine Delight’ brings on stage renowned artists of various genres some of whom are coming together for the first time.
Ace flautist Praveen Godkhindi and vainika Rajhesh Vaidya are working on the concept that will showcase the individuality of each musician, melody stringing them together in a grand expression of fusion. Fiery Sivamani, whose drums echo the sounds of Africa and Japan, and Kadri Gopalnath’s majestic saxophone will be foil for the gentle strokes of Prasanna and Keith Peters on the guitar and the bass guitar respectively.
Godkhindi defines the presentation as a confluence of styles, genres and talents. “All differences will be submerged in the ocean of music, which will emerge as one,” says Godkhindi, who outlines the concept. “Veteran Kadri Gopalnath will be under the spotlight when the curtain goes up. He will regale the audience with his resonant saxophone during the first 45 minutes. Then the other artists will come on stage.”

In the second section, each will start a number with the others joining him in support. This will be followed by a percussion session led by Sivamani on the drums. With him are the redoubtable Dr. Karthik, innovative ghatam artist, and Aditya Kalyanpur, whose fingers play magic on the tabla. “You can be sure of some fireworks set off by feather touch beats,” promises Godkhindi. The line-up definitely suggests that!
It will be a rain of devotional and national songs such as ‘Vaishnava Janato’ and ‘Raghupati Raghava’ in the third section that will see Kadri Gopalnath back on the stage.

“My initial presentation in the company of violinist Kanyakumari will be purely classical. This will set the tone and prepare the audience for the fusion that will follow,” says Kadri. “It will be a typical concert with a full complement of accompanists including Harikumar, Chandrasekhara Sarma and Rajendra Nakod. I will join the others in the final segment that will be a medley of Carnatic, Hndustani and Western,” he adds.
