The best things in life come in the form of portraits, believe photographers Lakshmi Prabala and Sucharita Rao. The duo is having an exhibition of photographs titled ‘Controlled Freedom' at Alankritha Art Gallery in Kavuri Hills. Explaining the title of the exhibition Lakshmi says, “While Sucharita represents the controlled part, I am the freedom.”
Well, glance around the pictures mounted on the walls of the gallery and you will comprehend the meaning of the statement. Lakshmi revels in street photography. “There are so many things which go unnoticed in a street. Sometimes a lot can happen in a fraction of a second and there are times when one needs to wait for a long time to get the perfect frame,” says the techie-turned-photographer.

“It was part of a mobile advertisement and this little girl was standing in front of it and smiling cheerfully. She had no hair or jewellery but her smile was lighting up the whole frame and I had to take her picture,” she says. There are pictures of
This is Sucharita Rao's debut exhibition and the excitement in her voice is palpable. ‘I am passionate about portraits. They come out beautiful as one gets to know the essence of the person. His/her personality comes out the best in a portrait,” she says. “I decide on the model's pose, lighting and clothes and have a mock shoot before deciding on how I want to go about the shoot. That's why it is the controlled part,” she says.
Looking at a picture of Nandita Das in a black and white frame, she says “That picture was taken in Hyderabad. There was not much time to do the styling but the photo stands out because of its natural beauty,” she says.

The exhibition is on till January 21 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
