A city-based hobbyist photographer has been awarded the Associateship of The Royal Photographic Society (ARPS), London, for a set of 15 wildlife photographs taken at different locations.

A.G. Gangadhar, a senior telecom operator assistant with the State-owned BSNL here, has been deeply involved in photography for over 10 years now. He spends most of his free time visiting wildlife sanctuaries and national parks across the country.

For the ARPS, he sent photographs of birds, insects and big mammals — five of each — frozen in action at different locations.

The tigers at play and the sambar looking for foliage were captured in Bhandavgarh National Park and the galloping gaur was taken in Kanha National Pradesh, both in Madhya Pradesh.

While the photographs of insects, including butterflies, were taken around Bangalore, birds were captured in action at Hessarghatta, Kokkerebellur and Ranganthittu.

“I have special interest in insects and macro photography,” he said.

Founded in 1853, The Royal Photographic Society is among the most respected photographic societies on earth. Mr. Gangadhar was awarded its Associateship on the merits of his photographs which were assessed by a panel of highly qualified Fellows of the society, a press release said.
