Bakul Foundation hosts art festival

The festival titled ‘Towards a New Viewership and Audience’ showcases the works of young and acclaimed painters of India and the earnings from the show will be used for promoting children’s library movement and art awareness activities in Orissa.

City-based Bakul Foundation that undertakes programmes for children’s education and art promotion has hosted the Bakul Art Festival in New Delhi in association with the Indian art magazine Art and Deal that is celebrating its 10th year of publication through the show.

“The month-long festival that will be on view till September 13 has showcased works of 36 young and acclaimed painters of India and half of them hail from Orissa. The show has been titled ‘Towards a New Viewership and Audience’ and it has been mounted at Gallery Art Konsult at 23 Hauz Khas Village in the national capital. The show has been curated by Rajashree Biswal,” informed Bakul Foundation director and festival convenor Sujit Mohapatra.

Part of the sale proceeds from this show would go to Bakul Foundation for its work in promoting children’s library movement and art awareness activities in Orissa, he added.

Third in series

The art festival is the third in the series being hosted by the Bakul Foundation. Similar events were mounted earlier in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar.

“Bakul has set up a huge public library in Bhubaneswar for children with voluntary contribution of one thousand people of the capital city. The library serves as a centre of multifarious creative activities for children. The artists of Orissa came forward to support the cause of the children and the Foundation and that is how the concept of art festival evolved,” said Sujit.
