An exquisite collection of Amrapali jewellery is on display at Amethyst. Amrapali, named after the ancient Indian courtesan, presents a line of jewellery which is inspirational in design and concept.
Using precious stones – Columbian emeralds, Burmese rubies and African diamonds – the collection is embellished with Jadau, enamel work and gold filigree work.

Jadau is celebrated in a ‘hasli’ with rows of uncut diamonds while Kerala gold work comes to life in a stiff Hasli reminiscent of Ajanta jewellery. A lovely tulsi malai’ from Andhra and an ingenious ‘kasumalai’ from Tamil Nadu add a Southern flavour to the collection. Classic jali work beads of uneven size meet in exquisite malas while flat rubies and diamonds hang in elegant tiers to lend a regal touch.
The uncut diamond necklace with delicate enamel work on both sides will work beautifully which ever side it is worn. Similar is the ase of the Navaratna mala with rows of diamonds surrounding the fall of the nine gems. The unusual mala has enamel work in red on the back of each piece featuring roses and nargis in Mughal settings.
Also on display are rows of Basra pearls, precious stone malas and jhumkas held up by diamond eyed fish, set with diamonds and rubies in a shower of pearls and bangles with rose cut diamonds and emeralds. Amrapali’s jewellery is created by traditional Jaipur artisans working with in-house designers.
