Kadali Kallolam , a Telugu novel penned by Ganara (Gadula Nageswara Rao) basing the contemporary issue of forcible evacuation of fishermen hamlets to pave way for corporate companies, was released at a meeting organised by the Sahithi Sravanthi literary organisation in Kakinada. The novel won third prize in a State-level competitions conducted by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on the sidelines of its convention. Prajasakti Book House published the work.
Releasing the novel, writer Telakapalli Ravi highlighted the need for launching stronger protests by the public to protect the natural resources. “The policies of the present governments are in favour of the corporate companies, but not that of the common man,” he said. He added that Ganara depicted the way in which fisher folk of a coastal village were forced to evacuate their village to pave way for a corporate oil company and the gave a detailed account of the role being played by different sections such as officials and elected representatives in the entire process of evacuation.
Noted writer and literary critic Vadrevu Veeralakshmi Devi commended the efforts of Ganara in researching the facts and presenting it in a subtle manner with literary values. “The writer is very successful in achieving brevity. In a 175-page novel, he gave the complete account of the lifestyle of fishermen and the businessmen and the consequences of their encounter,” she said, adding that the characterization of protagonist Ganga added strength to the narration. “After finishing the book, the reader starts thinking of issues taking place in contemporary society,” she said. Ganara thanked the CPI (M) for encouraging him with the prize, Prajasakti Book House for publishing his work and Sahithi Sravanthi organization for the book release function.
