Life in a city can be an eye-opener when you have lived all your life in a village. Director Joshiy focusses on the travails of young Madhavan Mahadevan (Dileep), a villager who moves to the city in Avatharam , which opens in cinemas today.

“It is an entertainer. And it has shaped up rather nicely,” says Joshiy, who has teamed up with Dileep for quite a few successful ventures over the years, beginning with Sainyam (1994). “ Avatharam has a strong story. As Joshiy is one of the finest technicians in Malayalam cinema, it will be a visual treat too,” says scriptwriter Uday Krishna.

He, along with writing partner, Sibi K. Thomas, and Dileep Kunnath and Vyasan Edavanakadu have produced the film under the banner of Four B Productions. Vyasan is also the scenarist of

Although it has the elements of a thriller,

Avatharam is not an action film per se. “Of all the avatars of Vishnu, you could say Madhavan, the protagonist, is akin to Vamana, in his mission,” says Vyasan.

Madhavan has to go to the city because his brother died. He is trying to get a job through the die-in-harness provision. Once Madhavan starts living in the city, his life changes dramatically.

Lakshmi Menon, the young Malayali actor who has found success in Tamil films, is paired opposite Dileep.
