‘Shantidoots’ from University of Nalanda for world peace: Nitish Kumar

Emboldened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh raising the issue of revival of the ancient Nalanda University as a global institution of “excellence,” Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said the move would come in handy for preparing “Shantidoots” for world peace.

“The steps taken for revival of the ancient NU in Bihar as a global institution of excellence will be fruitful not only for imparting teaching but also preparing Shantidoots (messengers for peace) for world peace,” Mr.. Kumar said, addressing a function organised on the occasion of 40th anniversary of Vishwa Shanti Stupa yesterday.

Stating that the ‘stupa’ was sending message across the world for peace, non-violence and humanity, Mr. Kumar said the “Shantidoots” would play a pivotal role for world peace.

He thanked former President A P J Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for taking special care for revival of the ancient Nalanda University.

The Prime Minister had yesterday thanked the East Asian countries for their help in reviving the ancient Nalanda University as a global institution of “excellence” saying it would be a shining example of cooperative action in the field of education. Mr. Singh made the statement in Thailand while addressing the 4th East Asia summit.
