Health, revenue and police department officers would take stock of the number of nursing schools in the city/ district and closely identify those which were not authorised by the government.
Collector U. Sagayam, who chaired the meeting, said that in the interest of students and the society, such an enumeration had to be carried out.
There were complaints that some people were running “institutions” without mandatory permission from the authorities concerned, which would jeopardise the future of the students.

Many victims in rural belt may be worst affected, he feared. Similarly, “nurse assistants” employed in rural hospitals had to be physically verified, he underlined.
Mr. Sagayam urged the village administrative officers to take stock of “clinics” operating in the villages under their jurisdiction and furnish names and addresses of “doctors” to health department officers for verification.
The district administration had been getting information about quacks or those without proper knowledge on medicine.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) Thirunavukkarasu, ACP Velladorai, PA (Agriculture) Jayasingh Gnanadurai, District Supply Officer Surendran, Joint Director (Health Services) Kabaleeswari, District Backward Classes Welfare Officer Kamatchi Ganesan, Assistant Commissioner (Excise) M. Chellampillai were present at the meeting.

Mr. Sagayam held a meeting with members of transgender and assured to provide them with all welfare assistance and rehabilitate them with self-employment programmes sponsored by the State government.
The Social Welfare Officer Jayalakshmi, Project Officer (Mahalir Thittam) Anandavalli, among others, who attended the meeting, would involve the field staff from the ICDS in the enumeration process.
Based on the inputs, the transgender population in the city and district would be issued with identity cards and the needs would be assessed.
Mr. Sagayam hoped the enumeration would be over in about a fortnight and assured the transgender representatives that the district administration would extend all assistance for their well being, a press release said.
