Food mela: “Food Mela-2014” was organised at Government First Grade College, Vemgal, in Kolar taluk recently. Promoting indigenous food among people was the objective of the mela. The students of the college prepared various food items and sold them at the stalls opened on the college premises.

Inaugurating the mela, principal N. Ashwathappa said such events help students develop entrepreneurship and confidence. A variety of fruits and vegetables were also kept at the stalls which the customers purchased with enthusiasm. Eco-friendly packaging by the students at the food fair created awareness about the dangers of using plastic.

Exhibition: Minister of State for Agriculture C. Krishna Byre Gowda inaugurated an exhibition organised by the students of the College of Sericulture, Chintamani, at Dinnehosahalli on September 25. Deputy Commissioner D.K. Ravi, and College Dean Jagadeeshwaran were present.

Workshop: The Department of Collegiate Education conducted a workshop for teaching faculty of government first grade colleges in the district at the Government College for Women here recently. Delivering a lecture at the workshop, Internal Quality Assessment Cell coordinator Siddalingaswamy underlined the need for college lecturers to have a basic knowledge of computers. Acquiring general knowledge is also vital for them, he said.
