SRM varsity convocation

SRM University, Chennai, recently celebrated its tenth convocation. Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Dr. Harsh Vardhan was the chief guest at the function where about 14,000 students were awarded bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees along with diplomas.

“To be successful, you will have to nurture a dream today. If you have a dream and are sincere about fulfilling it, you will have the help of God, society and everyone,” the Minister said, recalling how two decades ago, a small group of people came up with the dream of eradicating polio from India. Today, it has been established that India is polio-free, he said.

In his welcome address, the president of SRM University, Dr. R.P. Sathyanarayanan, spoke of the various research initiatives taken up by students and faculty in various areas. Honourary degrees of doctor of science was conferred on Alur Seelin Kiran Kumar, chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation; Pradeep K. Khosla, distinguished professor and chancellor of the University of California, and Ashutosh Sharma, secretary of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
