Ethiraj College organised ED Bazaar, a one-day exhibition-cum-sale, on 12th February. The Bazaar was inaugurated by Mrs. Erum Ali, Proprietor, EA Design Studios, Chennai. Dr. Mrs. Jothi Kumaravel, principal, Ethiraj College for Women was present.
There were stalls exhibiting fashion accessories such as handmade jewellery, hand bags, purses and designer tee’s and kurtas.

The expo also featured gift items like pen-holders, photo-frames, greeting cards, soft toys, customised key chains. There were also students offering services like mehandi, Tattoo designing, nail art, pedicure, and so on. Artists also exhibited their paintings and grabbed good rewards by selling them.
The Department of Bank Management hosts this mega-event along with other Business Studies departments. This year, there were around 200 stalls with 600 students participating from all the disciplines making a profit of Rs.55,000. A competition for the self made products of the students was organised and the first three winners were awarded the cash prize.
Amidst all the fun and frolic, the underlining and most important characteristic of this ED Bazaar is that, it gives a hands-on experience and proves to be a great motivational tool to set up a business in future.

Bannari Amman Institute of Technology wins title
The grand finale of the ‘The Freescale Cup – 2013’, organised by Freescale Semiconductor India in collaboration with Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (DESE) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), took place at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Malleswaram, Bengaluru recently.
Hot Wheels Team from Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Coimbatore took the title this year.
The competition is part of Freescale‘s global initiative to promote innovation and creative thinking in young engineering students.
In the competition, students were required to develop a prototype racing car that followed a line around a track. Freescale provided technical support as well as model car kits and development tools based on Freescale microcontroller technology required to build the racing car.
The grand finale was the culmination of several months of challenging work in designing and assembling smart model cars for the race.
The students were judged by a panel of experts on several parameters such as innovation, design and technology. Finalists were shortlisted according to their performance in the preliminary rounds, held in Noida and Coimbatore. The prizes for the winners included Rs. 2 lakh for the winning team along with a sponsorship to the global event that will take place in China later this year, Rs. 1 lakh for the runners-up and Rs. 50,000 for team that finished third. The consolation prize of Rs. 25,000 was also given to 3 additional runner-up teams.
One billion rising
Students of VIT came together in thousands on February 14 to observe a two-minute silence in concurrence with the global initiative of “ONE BILLION RISING”, an event to showcase support for the cause.
Preceding this, an oath was taken unanimously by each one present there.
“I swear never to commit, never to excuse and never to remain silent on violence against women. I will conduct myself with conscience and dignity, always. So help me god,” echoed all students.
The initiative was taken by Uddeshya, an NGO founded by the students of VIT University which now functions on a national level. Candles were lit and white balloons were released symbolising light and peace.
