Conclave on human resource development

A two-day national conference on “Life skills and youth empowerment” was inaugurated at the Crossland College at Brahmavar in Udupi district on February 24.

In his keynote address, Daniel Ezhilarasu, General Secretary, All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE), New Delhi, emphasised the importance of inner potential and development of skills. The youth should be able to face the challenges in life and take decisions to solve their problems. Effective communication was an important skill. Educational institutions must inculcate human values among youth along with academic excellence, he added.

Mathew C. Ninan, Director of Little Rock Institute for Educational Leadership, Fr. Xavier Alphonse, former UGC member, and others were present.

Annual Day: The fifth Annual Day of SMV Institute of Technology and Management was held at Bantakal in Udupi district on February 21.

Speaking on the occasion, Ananthakrishna, Chairman, Karnataka Bank Ltd., Mangaluru, said that combining engineering and management skills was of importance. He emphasised the need to strengthen the analytical and reasoning skills in students to make them competent and successful in their professional careers. Getting to know the details of one’s area of specialisation and having an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of an issue would stand one in good stead, he said.

Awards and academic proficiency prizes were given away on the occasion. R.S. Aithal, Principal of the Institute, read a report.

Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt, Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami of Sode Mutt, Ganesha A., Dean (Academics) of the Institute, and others were present.

Conclave: The School of Management, Manipal University, organised a conclave on human resource development titled “HR tomorrow - Challenges ahead’ in Manipal on February 21.

Shashikanth Jayaraman, Head-HR, TVS Automobile Solutions Ltd., Chennai, spoke about the importance of harnessing diversity in an organisation. This would give a competitive edge to the organisation by strengthening cultural values. He stressed that the organisation should focus on diversity in terms of attitude, expectations, needs and careers.

Sridhar Murthy, Senior Executive-HR, SPAN Infotech (India), Pvt. Ltd., spoke about the need for linking business strategy and human capital management, and the importance of measuring the value and impact of human capital.

Roopa Patil, Manager-Talent Acquisition, Mindtree, Bangalore, K. Ramnarayan, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University, K.V.M. Varambally, Director, School of Management, and others were present.

Sports meet: The annual sports meet of SMV Institute of Technology and Management was held at Bantakal in Udupi district recently.

Kemparaj H.B., Director of Physical Education, Manipal University, who inaugurated the event, said that fitness of the mind and fitness of the body were equally important and participating in sporting activities would make one develop a competitive and winning spirit. It would also enable one to take both winning and losing with equanimity, he said.

Akash Shetty welcomed the gathering. Navya Sanil proposed the vote of thanks. Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami, President of SSVM Education Trust (SSVMET), gave away the prizes. R.S. Aithal, Principal of the Institute, and others were present.
