Students have challenges and the outcomes of their efforts may be uncertain, but if the resolution is strong and the goals are clear then success is certain, Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala said recently. He was speaking during the annual convocation and alumni reunion 2014 of Alliance University at its Central Campus in Anekal, Bangalore. He also presented gold medals to students. Lok Ayukta Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao was also present at the event.

B. Vocational course

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, launched the B. Vocational course at the Noble Institute of Education Society, Konappana Agrahara, Bangalore, recently. The event was inaugurated by B.R. Mamatha, Joint Director, Department of Information and Public Relations. Speaking on the occasion, Nayana Mallapurkar of Tata Institute of Social Sciences said that the need of the hour was to ensure that the youth were made employable through proper training and guidance. “There are numerous employment opportunities. But job providers are not finding suitable skilled manpower. The top priority of the B.Voc course is making the young students skilled and industry ready,” she said.

Courses

The Azim Premji University has invited admissions to its three-year undergraduate and two-year postgraduate programmes. They include M.A. in Education; Development; and Public Policy and Governance; and B.Sc. and B.A. with specialisations in Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities.

Students can apply on the University website and applicants will be shortlisted based on a written test and personal interview. As per the press release from the University the last date for applications for the postgraduate programmes is February 6 and the test is scheduled in 30 centres across India on February 15, 2015.

Ranks

Two students of the Sambhram School of Management bagged two ranks in the MBA Programme, 2014, of Bangalore University.

Astha Joshi bagged the first rank and Mahendra Naik L. the fifth rank.

CMA training

GEMS convocation

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy was at his humorous best while addressing the students of GEMS B-School during the 4th Annual Convocation. In his address to fresh students, Dr. Swamy stressed on the need for young management professionals to develop a positive attitude. “Develop the courage to face challenges and don’t get bogged down by failures,” he said. In his 45-minute talk he advised the students to develop strong emotional and social intelligence so that they can communicate powerfully and effectively.

PES programme

A free Internet training programme (Antarajala Prapancha 2014) for Government school students was conducted by PES Institutions and Department of Public Instruction, Government of Karnataka, recently. The event was inaugurated by M.R. Doreswamy, Chancellor, PES University. Jayaram, President, Health and Education Standing Committee, Nagar Zilla Panchayat, Bangalore, K.N.B. Murthy, Vice-Chancellor, PES University, K.S. Sridhar, Principal PESIT, V. Krishnamurthy, Registrar, PES University, and Nitin V. Pujari, HOD, PESIT-CSE, were present.
