Graduation ceremony

A graduation ceremony was organised at the Institute of Clinical Research (ICRI) India for the batch of 90 students of M.Sc in Clinical Research recently. Prominent personalities from ICRI, Cranfield University, U.K., and senior directors of Central Government Health Services (CGHS), Karnataka, were present. The function was inaugurated by the chief guest, Shanmugananda, Additional Director, CGHS, Bangalore.

S.R. Dugal, Chairman, Board of Directors, ICRI, said, “Every convocation ceremony in ICRI is a proud moment for all its faculty and non-faculty members as it is a reward for our educational commitment to each and every student who enrols in our institute and passes with flying colours.”

A total of 80 students were awarded post-graduate degrees at the ceremony. Pravina Koteshwar, Principal, ICRI, Bangalore Campus, said, “It's a proud moment for us. It only reinforces the efforts ICRI takes to provide its students with state-of-the-art technology, infrastructure and global exposure.”

Joan Houghton, Course Director, M.Sc. Clinical Research, Cranfield University, and Peter Lee, Course Director, M.Sc. Health Operations, Cranfield University, spoke.

National conference

The Department of MBA and MCA of Brindavan College organised a two-day national conference on ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Business in the New Millennium' recently to discuss the different aspects faced by businesses in the areas of finance, marketing, HR, IT and general management.

The function was inaugurated by Majed A.A. Sabha, Chairman, Brindavan Group of Institutions, and V. Narayanan, HR strategist and management consultant. The other dignitaries were Vishwanath, Director, MP Birla Institute; Cynthia Menzes, professor, CBSMS, Bangalore University; Hanumantappa, Dean, MCA Department, Bangalore University; and Swamy, Dean and Head, Business Management Department, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Hyderabad.

Industry professionals, academicians, research scholars and students from different parts of the country presented research papers on different topics of management and IT. A total of 80 papers were presented and discussed.

Research projects

Some students of Acharya Institute of Technology (AIT) have been selected to carry out research projects at Old Dominion University (ODU), Virginia, U.S.

As per the understanding between AIT and ODU, the students were selected by Ajay Gupta, Director of Computer Resources in the Department of Computer Science at ODU for their projects, during his visit to the AIT campus recently. Currently, a student, Ashwini Prasad, has undertaken a project on iPhone application at the University. The Dept. of CSE has also conducted a selection process to select eligible students for the project and four teams have been selected for the current academic year. The teams will be undertaking projects in spray routing, satellite image registration, mobile cloud robotics, and grid computing.

Prachi Sharma and Sana Parween, fifth semester Computer Science students at AIT, were also selected for the ODU project on ‘Copyright protection and user authentication.'

“The MoU signed with ODU has enhanced the interest in research among our students and they are getting exposed to the areas of cloud computing, video processing and brain computer interface. As per this understanding, we encourage students to propose research ideas and give directions to come out with a working prototype. The students who are successful in building the working prototype are sponsored to visit ODU to extend their projects or to pursue higher studies in their areas of interest,” explained C.M. Prashanth, HOD, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, AIT.

XIME-Shanghai Institute MoU

Taking note of the ever increasing presence of China in the global arena, B-school Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME) has decided to add to its growing international exposure. XIME has collaborations with foreign universities in almost 10 countries. The latest addition has come with the President of XIME J. Philip signing an MoU with his counterparts at the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade (SIFT), Shanghai.

Carmel's MDP

Mount Carmel Institute of Management, Bangalore, conducted a two-day Management Development Programme (MDP) recently. The theme was “Countertrend….shaping the leader with a difference.” The objectives were to develop countertrend leaders, leaders with character who care, with integrity who inspire, who lead without lording, and with values who are valiant to live them out.

H.T. Sangliana, Vice-Chairman, National Commission for Minorities, said in his inaugural address that leaders of tomorrow need to be “available and accessible,” and should have a sense of belongingness to the organisation and to the society at large. He told the participants that “honesty is the best policy.” Sr. Albina, Director of MCIM, Terence D'Souza, Principal, Michael Norona, Dean- Academics, and Manika Girinath, Coordinator of the MDP, were present.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with Kutumb Communications, an NGO that has been addressing all areas of family life.

A special Deepavali

On the joyous occasion of Deepavali, the “New Horizon Family” shared its happiness with 120 orphans from the Child Fund, who had been invited to take part in the celebrations at the New Horizon Public School, Indiranagar.

The students from the orphanage were given new clothes, and a fireworks display was organised for them.
