The eighth International Conference on Information Processing (ICIP)-2014 was inaugurated by S.S. Iyengar, Director and Ryder Professor, School of Computing and Information Sciences, Florida International University.
The conference was organised by The Society of Information Processing, Bangalore, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), Bangalore, and sponsored by Alpha College of Engineering and Vijaya Vittala Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Iyengar said it is necessary to convert innovative ideas in research into real industry applications.

B. Thimme Gowda, Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University, delivered the presidential note and said the conference had consistently provided an environment to interact with learned individuals in the emerging research areas. He advised the research scholars to publish their work in quality journals.
Venugopal K.R., Principal, UVCE, and Program Chair, said India is poised to take a giant leap in the field of educational research in the near future. Interdisciplinary research is essential to solve real-life problems.
He expressed the need for a corpus fund at the national level to encourage young researchers of this country.

Nearly 450 papers were submitted, out of which 129 papers were selected for presentation, from IITs, NITs, and Central and State universities.
More than 250 delegates participated in the three-day conference held at University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering.
Leadership series
Chirag Shah, Supply Chain Finance Operations Director at Unilever, visited Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bangalore. Addressing the first year batch of students, Mr. Shah emphasised greatly on foraying out of one’s comfort zone as a prerequisite for being an outstanding manager.
Awareness programme
An awareness programme on traffic rules and regulations was jointly organised by Devanahalli Traffic Police and SSR College NSS unit on the college premises.
Gopal Reddy, ACP North (Traffic), actor Bhavana and members of the management and staff of the college were present.
