Anna University of Technology Chennai (AUTC) will look to raise the standard of evaluation, give more autonomy to colleges, take steps to increase employability, support faculty research and training and promote collaborative research.
In a circular sent to principals of affiliated colleges, C. Thangaraj, Vice-Chancellor, AUTC, said the university was of the opinion that the faculty and physical infrastructure requirements are mandated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) regulations and there was nothing left to compromise between the university and colleges in this aspect. The information provided by colleges on infrastructure and faculty would be shortly made available to the stakeholders through the university website, he said emphasising that the university would make surprise or complaint based inspection in affiliated colleges at any time.
The affiliation process at present was limited to verifying faculty and physical infrastructure as per AICTE norms but the university would like the affiliation process to help the needy colleges by sending experts, giving priority for new colleges, Mr. Thangaraj said.

While all the colleges enjoyed the autonomy of assessing the continuous progress of students in theory and practical examinations, it was unfortunate that many colleges were not using the freedom in real spirit. AUTC was for granting more autonomy to colleges.
To promote industry – institute interaction, the university has a plan to nominate industry personnel as university's nominee in the Governing Council of colleges and for staff selection committees, he said asking principals to get in touch with the university's director of planning.
