A seminar on the “Role and contribution of women in science” was held at SRN Adarsh College. The inaugural address was given by K.K. Seethamma, Registrar (Administration) of Bangalore University. She spoke about the role of women in day-to-day life, and the problems they faced.
Similarly, the IQAC and Research Cell of SRN Adarsh College had organised a one-day Faculty Development Programme. The inaugural function was presided over by the president of Adarsh Group of Institutions (AGI), V. Premraj Jain. Jitendra Mardia, Secretary of AGI, was the guest of honour

In his inaugural address, B. Thimme Gowda, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, stressed on the fact that globalisation has led to increased competitiveness for which the teachers need to be prepared through research. He advised the teachers to treat their students as they would want their own children to be treated.
A two-day ethical hacking and cyber forensics workshop was organised recently by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, T. John Institute of Technology, in association with TechBharat Consulting, New Delhi. The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of P. Sambasivan, Campus Director, T. John Group of Institutions, and S. Padmanabha, Principal, T. John Institute of Technology. Kislay Bharadwaj, Computer and Network Security, TechBharat Consulting, participated in the inaugural ceremony.

The session provided an overview of the fundamental principles of ethical hacking, network security and web application security. The workshop helped participants gain a deep understanding of the vulnerabilities, threats and attacks that manifest in websites. Participants also had a hands-on experience in exploiting those vulnerabilities and developing solutions for them.
Conference
M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Management, Bangalore, in association with the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), held the third national conference on “Emerging sectors: Growth drivers for Indian economy”. For this conference, 78 delegates had registered and 60 paper presentations were made on topics such as banking, finance and insurance services, education, infrastructure and energy, health, retail, and logistics.
During these sessions, the speakers identified healthcare, garment, food processing and beverage, tourism, retail, infrastructure, informatics, pharmaceutical, natural resources, social media, wealth and event management, and micro credit as the emerging sectors and the growth drivers for the Indian economy. Entrepreneurship was emphasised by all the speakers.

Karthik R. and Swathi S., both final year MBBS students of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, are representing India at the annual ASA Aging in America 2013 conference at Chicago.
About 5,000 members including educators, administrators, policymakers, business people, researchers, and students from many countries are participating in the international conference.

Scholarships
Educational Testing Service (ETS), the creator of the TOEFL® test, has announced the launch of the 2013 TOEFL® Scholarship Program in India. It recognises students in India who excel academically and demonstrate well-rounded qualities such as participation in extracurricular activities, including community service.
ETS will give 21 students a total of $70,000 for undergraduate or graduate study in the country and/or overseas for the 2013 academic school year.
