A handful of rice with love

Samsmaran Din: The students of Crossland College based at Brahmavar in Udupi district marked the “Samsmaran Din” of the college founder C.T. Abraham in a unique manner.

The college launched a programme titled “A handful of rice with love” where the students along with faculty contributed a handful of rice. Leaders of the Students’ Council moved around the classes with bags to collect the rice. The students collected 2.85 quintals of rice and Rs. 2,485. Along with a contribution of Rs. 5,000 from the college, it was handed over to Spandana, a home for the differently abled, at Santhekatte.

Gowtham Shetty, Ajith K. Jose, and Anshifa Sony, office-bearers of the Students’ Council, were present.

Inaugurated: The PG Students Council of the Centre for Post-Graduation Studies was inaugurated at the St. Mary’s Syrian (SMS) College at Brahmavar in Udupi district recently.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Nery Cornelio, Principal of Milagres College, Kallianpur, said good leaders build a strong nation. Presiding over the function, H.V. Somayaji, Principal of SMS College, urged the students to grab the opportunities and come up in life. M. Sreepad, Coordinator of PG Studies, highlighted the objectives of the PG Students’ Council.

Trupti G. Rao of final year M.Com, Chairperson of the Students Council; Priyanka Mishal D’Souza of first year M.Com, Vice-Chairperson of the Council; Ramnath Shetty, Secretary of the Council, and others were present.

Launched: The Youth Red Cross Wing (YRCW) was launched on the premises of SMV Institute of Technology and Management at Bantakal in Udupi district recently.

The chief guest, Sridhara Shenava, Chairman, YRCW, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), lauded the students and the institute for taking up extra-curricular activities. He also lauded the YRCW unit of SMVITM for its active participation in the rally organised on the eve of “Geneva Convention Day” on August 12 in Udupi.

George Samuel, Secretary, IRCS; T. Chandrashekhar, Treasurer; Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Principal of the Institute; and A. Ganesha, Dean (Academics), were present.

Devika Lakshmeesha, President of YRCW, welcomed the gathering. Ransan Joy Mathias delivered the vote of thanks.
