Wish your dog could do a few antics much to the awe of others? Well, here is someone who can make your pet perform those tricks with ease.
Meet C.G. Krishna Kumar, professional dog trainer from Chennai, who runs a dog training center ‘Canines Coast' at his home in Royapuram. Having trained more than 150 canines on areas such as behaviour, security and sniffing, Kumar believes that any canine, even a stray, can be trained in 45 days, if the owner has deep affection towards the animal and wants to see it improve its skills.
Trained in Printing Technology, Kumar was initially running an offset press in North Chennai. His career change came around 2004 when he was searching for a trainer for his new puppy. “When my desperate efforts to find the right trainer did not payoff, my close friend suggested the idea of training the dog myself,” says Kumar whose basic knowledge on dog training and die-hard passion for canines turned his puppy into smart dog in a few months.

In 2005, Kumar went to Sky Tracker Detection Dog Squad in Pune and got trained under instructor Junaid. After two years of putting his master's training skills on the dogs here, Kumar set up a small facility at home in 2007 and started training dogs professionally. Through friends, he received some clients who assigned him to train their dogs for various tasks including protection work, ability training for competitions, house obedience and even toilet training.
According to Kumar, a dog must be trained without a collar or chock chains. “The method is called positive reinforcement. Post training, the dog will bond well with the trainer and fondly obey instructions,” avers the trainer who denounces the conventional methods as those terrorising the animal.
Kumar usually begins with toilet training and then goes on to teach house-obedience including training the dog not to bark constantly, avoid jumping on guests at home and also refrain from biting furniture. The trainer insists on two requirements before commencing training – the dog must have received two vaccines and the owner or caretaker of the dog should be present throughout the training period.
