The Raja Annamalai Puram Resident’ Association (RAPRA) has installed a traffic mirror at the intersection of Canal Bank Road and Second Cross Road in R. A. Puram.

It has been installed at this accident-prone blind curve to enhance visibility for vehicle users.

This idea came from S. Ramakrishna, a resident of Seventh Main Road.

“Earlier, many accidents used to occur at the intersection. Vehicles coming from Canal bank Road and Second Cross Road take a sudden turn resulting in collisions. Recently, I witnessed a collision between a van and car. Luckily, no one was gravely hurt,” said S. Ramakrishna, who also sponsored the mirror.

There have been incidences of children skidding and falling from their cycles while trying to avoid collision with an oncoming vehicle at the intersection, he added.

“V. Sreenivasan, joint secretary, RAPRA, helped a lot in getting the approval from the Chennai Corporation and Chennai Traffic Police in setting up the mirror,” Dr. R. Chandrasekaran, founder, RAPRA, said.

The Association thanked Sri Balaji Agencies, Canal Bank Road, R. A. Puram, for helping install the mirror.

The Chennai Traffic Police has appreciated the Association for its efforts and has requested other resident’s welfare associations to follow suit.

“The mirror has been erected for safety reasons. It can be very effective at night,” Mr. Ramakrishna pointed out.
