Following the recent spell of showers, shoddy road work once again stands exposed. Water logging was not the only problem. The heavy rainfall has created several potholes and huge craters.

The conditions of the roads in Adyar are in a dismal condition. The First Cross Road, Gandhi Nagar, Adyar, First Main Road, Indira Nagar, Adyar, and First Main Road, Kasturba Nagar, Adyar, are among roads that have gone from bad to worse. These roads are unfit for use.

“The newly-laid roads show the shoddy quality of work, which was undertaken by contractors. A huge amount of money is sanctioned by the government to lay quality roads. But, most roads have developed cracks,” residents said.

“Even before the onset of the North East Monsoon, we sent letters to the Chennai Corporation on the poor condition of the re-laid roads in Adyar but in vain,” said one of them.

Now, road repairs cannot be taken up till the monsoon ends. “With North-East Monsoon expected till December, major repair works in the city have to wait. And commuters are in for a rough ride in the coming days,” said M. Sulochana, a motorist.

When contacted, Chennai Corporation officials said they would look into the matter, and do the needful.
