Residents of Padi Kuppam, Mogappair find it difficult to step out of their houses because of illegally parked vehicles on the Padi Kuppam Main Road. According to residents, most of the vehicles are commercial vans and lorries that unload goods at a wholesale rice shop located on the stretch.

Schoolchildren have to negotiate the congested stretch to board their school bus which waits at the Ambattur Industrial Estate Main Road. Since most of the space on the stretch is occupied by these vehicles, school buses and vans are unable to enter the stretch to pick and drop schoolchildren at their doorsteps. . To avoid any hassle , children walk in groups on the broken footpath to board their school buses. “The Padi Kuppam Main Road has many government quarters and apartment complexes. Despite being thickly populated, the stretch is narrow and only a portion of the road was laid by the Corporation two years ago after continuous pressure from residents,” said K. Sargunam, a resident of Mogappair.

Tucked away between Ambattur Industrial Estate Road and the congested Poonamallee High (PH) Road, Padi Kuppam Road connects Kamaraj Nagar, Gandhi Street, Nehru Street and Anna Street with two arterial roads — Estate Road and PH Road.

The traffic has increased here after the Chennai Metro Rail work began a few years ago as people started using Padi Kuppam Road to avoid one-way traffic to reach PH Road quickly.  and 12 main roads in Anna Nagar were converted into one-way making it difficult for motorists to reach the main city via P.H. Road
