A motley group of college friends, working professionals and house wives have joined hands to create a clean environment around the city. Just one-and-a-half-month old, this loosely-woven group, called Aram, has already left its footprints in a few neighbourhoods.

Last Sunday, motorists were surprised to see them, brooms in their hand, at the Nelson Manicam Road subway in Nungambakkam.

They cleaned the facility and re-painted the walls of the subway to give it a fresh look. This is only their second project. The group was started by nine college mates. Within a month, they increased to 25.
