Sometimes life requires someone to press the pause button from the rigmarole. No amount of shopping therapy or high on spirit weekends can match the happiness doing simple things, such as s sitting on terrace and observing the nature. An evening spent with C.V. Vaidyalingam (63) and A.D. Chowdhry (75) to feed some birds at their apartment building on Khadar Nawaz Khan Road reminded me of my squirrel friend, who I fed everyday when I was eight-years-old. Nothing made me happier than watching him come to my balcony every evening.

The two men, who call themselves young fellows, are neighbours of Brindavent Apartment and have been feeding birds for almost 8 months now.

“One day while relaxing on the terrace we saw the birds eating worms. We thought why not give them some good food. We gave them some bread that we had and the next day we realised that those birds were back with some of their friends,” says Vaidyalingam, former GM Marketing at India Today group.

There might not be a variety of birds joining these two men for a soiree, but the pigeons, crows and occasionally some parrots provide them with good entertainment for an hour. “It is so interesting to notice the unique characteristics of each bird. For instance, we have a one legged bird, who takes the first serving of the food to his nest for its kids and then comes back for its share. To watch these birds come by everyday gives both of us peace of mind. I think it’s the best way to spend the retired life,” says A.D. Chowddhry.

These lucky birds have different menu every day – biriyani, bread, biscuit, rice, poori and roti.
