Pedestrians and bus commuters acutely feel the absence of a zebra crossing near the entry and exit points of Thiruvanmiyur Bus Terminus.

At rush hour, undisciplined motorists make it difficult for them to cross the Thiruvalluvar Salai — a one way — where the terminus is located.

The one way stretches from the junction of South Avenue Road and Thiruvalluvar Salai, Thiruvanmiyur, to the junction of East Coast Road and 22 East Street.

On the western section of Thiruvalluvar Salai, close to the bus terminus, vehicles come at considerable speeds, at almost all times of the day.

During the peak hours, crossing the eastern section of Thiruvalluvar Salai is just as difficult.

Share-autos wait on one side of the western section, forcing the pedestrians on to the road and exposing them to the danger of being hit by any of the fast-moving vehicles.

“Chaos prevails when the walkers signal to the motorists to stop and try to cross the stretch. On seeing the walkers do this, some motorists jump lanes and zoom past. Installing a pedestrian signal near the terminus alone can put an end to such reckless and inconsiderate driving,” says R. Siva, a pedestrian.
