A different role
Editor Suresh Urs will now do what he's only seen others do — act! In director Sampath Arumugam's “Mahaan Kanakku”, he plays the CEO of a computer training institute. Says the director: “When I approached him with the offer, he initially refused it saying all he knew was editing. But, I persuaded him to act, and he relented. Now I know he's perfect for the role. In fact, he's doing a role in a Malayalam film.”
Suresh has worked for nearly 500 films, including Mani Ratnam's “Roja”, “Thalapathi”, “Bombay”, and “Iruvar”; Rajiv Menon's “Kandukondein Kandukondein” and “Minsara Kanavu”; Charan's “Kadhal Mannan”, “Amarkalam” and “Vasoolraja MBBS”; P. Vasu's “Chandramukhi”, and all of Bala's films.

‘Gaana' Ulaganathan, as is evident from his name, is popular for his gaana songs. However, his music has taken a new course for the film “Kothanar” — a number with Western influence. Composed by music director Thashi, the lyrics for the song has been penned by the film's director M.E. Prabhu. The singer is evidently delighted with the song. “I'm game for experimenting with any genre. But, it's with this song that I realised I actually could try that,” says Ulaganathan who shot to fame with the song ‘Valameenukkum Velangu Meenukkum Kalyanam' in “Chithiram Pesudhadi”.

Vijay Antony deserves a pat on his back! The music director is keen on giving a lyricist a break. So, for his upcoming film “Naan”, he has uploaded a tune on his website www.vijayantony.com. Aspiring lyricists can send in the lyrics for the piece till December 31 also through Facebook and YouTube. The winner will be announced on January 2. Incidentally, “Naan” is being jointly produced by Vijay Antony Film Corporation and AVR Talkies, and directed by Vijay Antony's college mate Jeeva Shankar. The film tells the story of a youth who overcomes the hurdles in life. Vijay Anthony, Siddharth (of “Anandha Thaandavam” fame) and Rupa Manjari (of “Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru” fame) play the lead.
