While most filmmakers play it safe by sticking to tried and tested themes to woo viewers, V.K. Prakash (VKP) chooses to experiment, regardless of the result at the box office. The filmmaker who is known for his varied genres, says, while he does make movies with the audience in mind, it is more for himself that he makes his films.

“I live, sleep and dream movies. I enjoy the making process of a film. I would get bored if I were to make versions of the same run-of-the-mill movies,” says the filmmaker. His previous outing in Mollywood was Netholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla, which “was more of an abstract film” did not create ripples. But there is no time to brood!

Jayasurya plays a stranger who comes to Thiruvananthapuram in

Thank You . Who he is, and his purpose in the city, are mysteries.

He plays a game of cat and mouse with Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner Dev Menon, played by Sethu.

Jayasurya’s character travels around the city in an autorickshaw. “Cinematographer Arvind Krishna has captured the city inside out. One can almost call the movie an ode to the city.”

The script by Arun Lal, says VKP, went with the flow of the shoot. “Most of the scenes were impromptu. We set the cameras at different points and let the story take a shape of its own.” Thank You is produced under the banner of Marikar Films. Lyrics by Rafeeq Ahmed have been set to tune by Bijibal.

Busy as a bee

Honey Rose plays Jayasurya’s wife, an expectant mother in the movie. Says Honey Rose: “She is a housewife who has just returned from abroad with her husband. They dream of settling in the city when something unexpected happens. It’s a socially relevant tale.”

This is the actor’s second outing with VKP. “The mood on VKP’s sets is fun. He has a knack of bringing out the best in you and is always full of support and encouragement,” says Honey, who will be seen in the romantic anthology Anchu Sundarikal and in Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus . “I play a hospital PRO in Anwar Rasheed’s segment, Aami , in which I star opposite Fahadh Faasil. In the Mamootty starrer, Daivathinte Swantham Cleetus , I play his wife, who is bold and capable of standing on her own feet. I have been given space to showcase my acting prowess in the movie.”

Jayasurya is gung-ho about his role in Thank You . “He is an ordinary man with no name. I think it’s perhaps for the first time that a main character remains nameless in Malayalam cinema,” says Jayasurya, who is turning producer with Punyalan (Agarbatti) . “I will be co-producing the movie with Ranjith Shankar who is directing the film, and I will be playing the lead role. The other characters have yet to be finalised.”
