Director John Robinson is busy canning a sequence for his debut film, Asha Black . The shot has Tamil actor Sarath Kumar and Devan facing a camera inside the drawing room of a plush mansion at Kakkanadu.
The two are in the middle of an argument and look stern. The director says the scene being canned at the moment is high on emotions.
“I prefer calling this film an emotional thriller. As the title suggests, these are some black episodes in the life of a young girl named Asha (played by newcomer Ishitha), who lives in Malaysia. She is the daughter of a wealthy corporate honcho. She yearns for her father’s affection; when she fails to get it, her life takes a turn. Although we can’t reveal anymore of the plot, a murder takes place in between followed by an investigation into the crime,” says John, who is also the movie’s scenarist.

The scene has Anwar Ali (Sarath Kumar), a tough talking Malaysian cop, making his point clear to Srinivas (Devan), vice-President of a successful IT company.
Sarath Kumar, who made his mark in Mollywood with Pazhassi Raja and Christian Brothers , says that he is not a regular face in Mollywood movies, as there are no good scripts being offered to him.
“I accepted this movie as it is about social networking and its hazards. The story is relevant,” he says.

Sarath has completed the eagerly awaited Kochadaiyaan with Rajinikanth, which he says was a superb experience. Although he is busy with his political activities, “movies remain a passion and I juggle dates for the camera.”
Devan says his character is dedicated to his career. As a result, he has neglected his daughter.
Arjun Lal, who shot to fame playing Mohanlal’s son in Thanmathra , plays Rohit, who falls in love with Asha. Manoj K. Jayan plays a taxi driver named Senthil, who has a key role in the film.
Asha Black, a Malayalam and Tamil bilingual, is produced under the banner of Nimita Productions. Cinematography is by Alby; music has been composed by Jecin George. Still photographer is Arun K. Jayan.
