Off-beat film maker Suseendran changes tack

From someone who made ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu', ‘Naan Magaan Alla' and more recently, ‘Azhagar Samiyin Kudirai,' all of which won rave reviews, one would only expect offbeat films. However, director Suseendran has decided to surprise fans with ‘Raja Pattai', a commercial film with actor Vikram playing the protagonist. The film was launched on Monday.

With the unit all set for the shoot that is to begin in a few days, an excited Suseendran says: “I do not want to be branded as a film-maker who makes a particular kind of movies. I want to prove that I can make a completely entertaining and commercial film.”

The film will have actor Deeksha Seth, who has been working in the Telugu film industry, play the female lead. “She plays an IT professional,” says the director, tight-lipped about what Vikram's character would be.

“There is good scope for comedy and action. I have requested him [Vikram] to put on weight for the film. I am truly excited about working with him,” he says.

However, for fans of actor Vikram, whose ‘Deiva Thirumagan' is expected soon, it would be very interesting to know whether their hero would do something different in this film too.

On whether working with a hero was any different, the director says: “There is a story and all actors are characters in it. All of us, as a team, will work within that story and what matters to us is whether the film becomes a hit or not.”

The cast also includes the recent national award winner Thambi Ramaiah and actor Arul Doss.

Veteran director K. Viswanath plays an important role, sources said.

Yuvan Shankar Raja will score the music for Yuga Bharathi's lyrics, and Bhaskar Sakthi will pen the dialogues. The story has been written by Seenu Vasan.
