Mia George might have featured in several Malayalam movies as a protagonist, but she still feels like a newcomer as her first Tamil film, Amarakaaviyam under Jeevasankar’s direction, gets ready for release.
She talks slowly over the phone, in a mix of Malayalam and English, on why she isn’t sure about doing much in Tamil, despite many of her peers dominating Kollywood. “I am amazed at the kind of respect actors and technicians receive in Tamil Nadu. However, I have decided not to sign any more movies in Tamil until this film releases,” she says firmly.

While she is still not fluent in Tamil, Mia says her experience as an actor could have tilted the scales in her favour, “They were looking for an experienced actor who could also pass off as a school student.”
Ask her if she faced any problem working in her first Tamil movie, and Mia says, “Time was a problem.” “The Tamil filmmakers take more time to shoot their films compared to the Malayalam film industry where most films are shot in 35-40 days.”
