Director James Cameron’s 3-D magic ‘Avatar’ has beaten his Oscar-winning film ‘Titanic’ in the run for the highest grosser in the international market.

The film has hit USD 1.29 billion at the international box office, according to producers Fox, passing ‘Titanic' mark of USD 1.24 billion to set the new record, E! online reported.

Thats not the end of the film’s run -- studio bosses estimate that the film will top Titanic’s worldwide gross of USD 1.848 billion to become the biggest money-maker of all-time.

‘Avatar’, which grossed USD 36 million domestically Friday-Sunday and led the box office for a sixth straight weekend, is now at USD 552.8 million on that ledger.

On Saturday, it blew past ‘The Dark Knight’ to grab the second place on the domestic grosser list.

“Milestones like this are great. It’s part of an amazing ride the film has taken us on. [But] this film is still just captivating audiences on global basis,” Fox executive Chris Aronson said.
