Sonakshi Sinha feels she has given the best and most natural performance of her life — as a macaw! “Jewel (the voice of Rio 2 ’s female lead) let me to do a hundred things that I can’t in my regular films or even in my daily life. It has been the most exhilarating experience,” says the actress speaking about her first animated voice-over in Hindi for Rio 2 that released this past weekend. The film is a 3D computer-animated musical adventure-comedy produced by Blue Sky Studios and directed by Carlos Saldanha. It is the sequel to the successful Rio . In the film, Blu (voice-over by actor Imran Khan), Jewel and their three kids leave the city of Rio de Janeiro for a journey to the Amazon rainforest which turns out to be extremely adventurous. Speaking about taking time out from her busy schedule (Sonakshi has one film each with Akshay Kumar — Holiday , Arjun Kapoor — Tevar and Ajay Devgan — Action Jacksson ) to do the voice-over, the actress says, “I told Fox Star Studios that I’d give two full days and finished voicing within that time. Our director Mona Shetty was amazing. She gave me some cues about handling Jewel and then I was on my own. I loved the way you can do a variety of sound effects in an animation than in regular dubbing. And anyone who knows me knows that I have that crazy streak of voicing just about everything,” she laughs. “I think that was the idea, to allow myself and Imran to lend our personality to the characters. The first few scenes were the most challenging. You had to get into the character, manage the timing and understand the vibe. After that it got easy!” she adds, when asked how challenging the task was. “I am waiting for more animation films to come my way.”

And what does she think of the Indian animation scene. “I think we need to do more. Even in Hollywood animation has picked up only in the last decade or two. We are also getting there with quality work. Budgets are still a constraint though,” she says.

As for her looking fitter than ever, the actress points out, “We all work so hard and the least we can do to satisfy ourselves is eating what we want to. I don’t believe in diets. You stop the diet and all the fat comes back. Instead, eat what you want to but in small portions. I also train at the gym for at least an hour-and-a-half four or five times a week. Earlier, I used to be lazy about it but I have seen the difference that it makes. Exercise is very important.”

Talking about skin care, Sonakshi says, “I drink a lot of water and have been blessed with a naturally good skin. We use make-up so often that I always emphasize on how important quality make-up products are. I also give a lot of importance to cleansing and toning the skin.”
