The Delhi High Court on Thursday vacated the stay on the screening of Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla starrer Gulaab Gang on an appeal against the Single Bench’s restraint order on Wednesday. The film is now set to be released across the country on Friday.

Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva had on Wednesday stayed the release of the film on a suit filed by women rights activist and head of the organisation, Gulabi Gang, Sampat Pal.

Ms. Pal charged the producer of the film with violating her copyright on the organisation by making the movie based on her life and the activities of the organisation without her permission. She also alleged that the film had certain defamatory remarks against her.

While vacating the stay, a Division Bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Siddharth Mridul said that the Court would consider compensating Ms. Pal later if the producer was found in violation of her copyright and the trademark right on her organisation on screening of the film.

The Bench also directed the producer, Sahara One Media and Entertainment Limited, to display a clear mark that the film had nothing to with Sampat Pal and her group.

The matter will now come up for hearing on Monday.
