What it is about…

Ammu Cine Arts’ Yennai Piriyathe is produced by P. Nehruji and N. Parthibarajan, and directed by Pon. Manikandan, who has also written the story, screenplay and the dialogue. The story is about friendship and love and how they impact our lives. Rathan Mouli and Shamili Nair play the lead while the other important roles are played by Priyanka, Ramya Narasimhan, Amar and M.K. Raju. The camera is handled by Bramma Sri Ravi, the stunts are choreographed by Jesudas, and the dances by ‘Rak’ Shanker. The first audio CD was released by R.B. Chowdry and received by director Sakthi Chidambaram and the whole unit.

Music highlights

There are six numbers in the album besides the karaoke version of the songs at the end. The album opens with ‘Bhoomi Kaal Kizhe’, sung by Mukesh and written by Annamalai. There is also a re-mix version of this song sung by ALS Velan which is better. Pon. Manikandan has written three numbers — ‘Eno Nenjam’ sung by the music director; ‘Mogama Vegama’ sung by Durga Viswanathan and Rahul; and ‘Enge Nee Enge’ sung by Jana Madukarai — which are peppy and sure to go down well with the listeners. ‘Thavani Poove,’ sung by V.V. Prasanna and Samira Bharathwaj and written by Ve. Padmavathi, is good.

Producer P. Nehruji: I am a businessman from Coimbatore with a passion for cinema. My son N. Parthibarajan joined me in producing this movie. We shot the film in and around Coimbatore and some of my friends have helped me in this venture.

Director Pon. Manikandan: I have worked with some of the known directors of Tamil cinema. When I wanted to make a film of my own, I took up a story based on college life. Cinema being a mass medium, I feel it’s our responsibility to show good things. Y e nnai Piriyathe is a clean entertainer and its racy screenplay will keep the audience glued to their seats.

Hero Rathan Mouli:Unnaiyae Kadhalipaen marked my debut as hero. I followed it up with Karumpuli and Deal . Yennai Piriyathe is the fourth on the list. It was in November last that I met director Pon. Manikandan. Though he told me the story, he did not want to reveal the climax. I came to know about it only during the shoot — it was something nobody would expect. I was specially trained for the fight sequences by stuntmaster Jesudas and also attended dance rehearsals for 10 days. This helped me perform well in both the action and dance sequences. I am eagerly awaiting the film's release.

Music director ALS Velan: My father Sahadevan is a Villupattu artiste, while my brother Jana is a good singer with a PhD in theatre. My other brother is also a musician. I am a keyboard player and did my post-graduation in music. I have done three films till now and they are Kizhakku Santhu, Kathavu En 108 and Karuppazhagi . When the director approached me, I was happy to do the film as the screenplay was interesting.
