What it is about…
Parampariyam Movies’ Thirugnanasambandar , produced, written, directed and acted in by D. Vijay Anand, narrates the life history of the Saivite child-saint. The film has music composed by Thashi, cinematography by Ravi, editing by Judidan, choreography by S. Nirmal Raja and art direction by Rajendran. The audio of the film was released by director S.P. Muthuraman and received by actor Prasanth.

The album has totally 14 songs, of which 11 are by Thirugnanasambandar and three by ‘Pattukottai’ Shanmugasundaram. Some of the songs of the saint are often heard on Carnatic concert platforms; setting the familiar lyrics to new tunes isn’t easy and Thashi has come up trumps with his beautiful compositions.
The first three numbers on the album are written by ‘Pattukottai’ Shanmugasundaram and they are ‘Poothathey Poothathey’ sung by P.C. Subeesh, ‘Vennilavai Thedi’ sung by Aadarsh and Durga Viswanath, and ‘Peiyotaneram Vanthachu’ sung by Karunaji.
Some of the popular numbers of Thirugnanasambandar sung well by Karunaji are ‘Manthiramavathu Neeru’, ‘Kadhalagi Kasindhu’, ‘Veyuru Tholibangan’, ‘Vazhga Anthanar,’ Avvinaiku Ivvinai’ and ‘Vasitheerave Kasu Nalguveer’. ‘Mangayarkarasi Vanavarkon,’ sung by Adarsh and Durga Viswanath, and ‘Thunjalum Thunjalillatha Podhilum’ sung by Durga Viswanath are extremely good. Vinaitha has sung three numbers on this album — ‘Thodudaiya Seviyan’, ‘Madaiyil Vazhai’ and ‘Adinai Naruneiyodu’ — and they are sure to strike a chord with the listeners.

Director and actor D. Vijay Anand: I am an advocate and also involved in charitable activities. I know the power and reach of a medium like cinema. Hence I have made this film to create awareness among youth about ancient Tamil poets and their works. Thirugnanasambandar performed several miracles during his lifetime and we are showing 11 of them in the film, which traces his life from early childhood. All the artistes are newcomers, and seven of them children. Music director Thashi has remarkably set to tune 11 songs of the saint-poet. Those who have listened to the songs have liked them and I feel the film will also find favour with moviegoers.
Music director Thashi: I am happy to have got this opportunity. I recorded the songs with live instruments. These types of films are a must to revive interest in Tamil literature among the youth.
