After rendering many chartbusters, Krish realises his acting dreams

When multi-talented singer Krish, armed with a degree in acting from the New York Film Academy, landed in India in 2006, he was clear about what he wanted in life — to be an actor in the Tamil film industry.

However, his singing skills were the first to get noticed and the youngster, who kept belting one hit after another including ‘Manjal Veyil’ from Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu , ‘June Ponal’ from Unnale Unnale , and ‘Aadiyae Kolluthey’ from Vaaranam Aayiram, ended up being a singer. Nevertheless, he did not lose focus and has now realised his acting dreams by signing not one, but two Tamil films.

Says Krish with a smile, “My first film is titled

Puriyaatha Aanantham Puthithaga Aarambam (

PAPA ) and is being directed by Syed Ibrahim, who has worked with established directors such as Prabhu Solomon and Madesh. The film is a simple love story but it is its treatment that will set it apart.”

The film is being produced by Ibrahim Rowther of Rowther Films and will feature newcomer Rusonah Brinto as the female lead.

“How this opportunity came my way is interesting. The producer liked this story when it was narrated to him. He was looking for a hero when he happened to watch the ‘Aga naga…’ song from Ko . I briefly appear in the song. He liked me and got in touch with me,” says Krish, adding that the film will hit screens by March next.

PAPA , Krish will begin work on his second film that will be produced by Ellis Pictures. The film to be directed by Vijay Mahendran is a rom-com with a huge dose of humour.

“ Jagan also plays an important role in the film and together, we are bound to bring the house down with laughter,” says Krish, who hails from Tiruchi and holds a Bachelors degree in computer science from the New York University as well.

“My dad, a banker, moved abroad on a posting. My mom was with the Indian consulate. I began my schooling here but then continued it in the U.S., where I spent around 15 years before returning. I would sing in stage shows and cultural events. Music composer Ganesh Kumar, who saw me during one such performance there, gave me his card and asked me to call him when I came to India. During a visit to India he offered me a Tamil song with a western touch. A day after I rendered the song, I got a call from Harris Jayaraj, who is Kumar’s friend. Apparently, Harris had heard the number and liked my rendition. That is how I got to sing ‘Manjal Veyil’ and ‘June Ponal’.”

The singer-cum-actor who believes more in hard work than in fate will be a busy man in 2013.
